How often should I shampoo my hair?

Every person is different, some hate to shampoo their hair and for others they shampoo every day purely out of habit.

Generally speaking, we recommend shampooing your hair every 3-4 days. This helps your natural oils to be distributed through your hair and is amazing how it can improve your hair condition.

When is it OK to wash my hair more often?

If you:

  • Exercise or play sport regularly
  • Swim often (a quick tip for this is you can rinse your hair and apply conditioner- we find this helps to bring hair into a more manageable condition)
  • Excessive use of styling products
  • Very oily hair – this is very common for teenagers in particular
  • Very fine hair- this hair type tends to go limp quickly, giving the person the need to shampoo more often.

Our three top tips to extend your shampoo regime:
  1. Use a dry shampoo, this usually gives the person an extra day before they need to shampoo
  2. Change the type of hair care products to reduce the weight in the hair – this includes specialised shampoos and conditioners that will help control sebum (oil) production and distribution through the hair
  3. Reduce the amount of styling your hair requires.

We are more than happy to discuss your individual needs to help with managing your haircare regime at home next time you’re in salon.
